Partie Ouest de l’île d’Hispaniola, en Mer des Caraïbes, de la taille de la Bretagne, Haïti est un pays montagneux (Pic de La Selle : 2680 m). Ses paysages de « mornes » sont souvent ravinés par des pluies tropicales, voire cycloniques, et par les conséquences de la déforestation.
La pauvreté atteint 80 % de la population et pousse les ruraux vers la capitale et ses bidonvilles. Les statistiques témoignent d’une vie précaire : 50 ans d’espérance de vie, 87‰ de mortalité infantile (4‰ en France), 80% de chômage, 55% d’illettrisme. Néanmoins, la peinture et la littérature haïtiennes sont mondialement reconnues.
Présent en Haïti depuis 1997, en partenariat avec les associations « Inter-Aide » de Versailles et « Concert Action » de Port-au-Prince, TDHA a soutenu des programmes de santé (dispensaire des Palmes), d’accès à l’eau potable et à l’hygiène, et de relance de la solarisation (commune de Petit-Goyave). Des aides ponctuelles sont intervenues suite au terrible séisme du 12 janvier 2010.
Renforcement des écoles – Zone rurale
En 2016 démarre notre participation au programme de r enforcement des écoles de Lamielle près de la frontière dominicaine (près de 30 écoles, 4 000 élèves et 2 800 familles).
L’objectif : soutenir et renforcer la dynamique de scolarisation pour une fréquentation scolaire précoce, régulière et continue afin de permettre à tous les enfants d’achever un cycle complet d’études primaires.
Les moyens : le recensement des besoins, l’information et la motivation de la communauté, les constructions de bâtiments, la formation continue des enseignants et des parents, le suivi des engagements annuels pris par chaque partie concernée… L’autonomie du programme est prévue au bout des 5 prochaines années.
Depuis 2023, c’est vers la zone de Marmelade que portent les efforts de ce projet.
Les enfants sont l’espoir de demain.
